Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) is required by SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 19-1. The ship's LRIT terminal, usually an Inmarsat-C or Mini-C unit, automatically reports the ship's identity, position, and time to its flag's data center at least every 6 hours. Flag states use LRIT data for maritime security, search and rescue, and safety.
SOLAS ships on international voyages: passenger ships (including high-speed craft), cargo ships of 300 GT and upward (including large commercial yachts), and mobile offshore drilling units. Ships that operate only in Sea Area A1 and are fitted with AIS are exempt.
A conformance test is needed when LRIT equipment is first installed, when the terminal is replaced, and, for some flags, when the ship changes flag. The Conformance Test Report (CTR) is issued by an authorized testing Application Service Provider (ASP) on behalf of the flag administration. Class checks the CTR before issuing or endorsing the ship's safety equipment certificate.
We check that your LRIT terminal is configured and reporting correctly, coordinate the conformance test with an authorized testing ASP, and make sure the report reaches you, your flag, and your class surveyor. We can schedule it alongside your annual GMDSS radio survey to save a visit.
IMO number, MMSI, flag, and gross tonnage; LRIT terminal make, model, and serial number; the terminal's Inmarsat mobile number; and where and when the vessel will be available.
Tell us where the vessel is and when it's available, and we'll take it from there. Call +1 (954) 655-8485 or send us a request.
